As the popularity of Sun Valley, ID grew, so did the population of nearby towns like Carey, ID. As the town’s population increased, they very quickly out grew their very small post office. Northern Management Services was awarded the contract to build a new post office for Carey, ID. Prior to the construction of the new Carey post office, the US Postal Service would purchase manufactured modular buildings to replace their small rural post offices. Under a limited pilot program, the USPS wanted to see if a “stick-built” building following same floor plan as their modular buildings could be built less expensively and with higher quality. Once the Carey post office was completed, two more post offices were to be built under this program. However, due the financial crisis the USPS found itself in, construction of the other two facilities was halted.
